Bangkok Itinerary: The Perfect 3 Days
Three days in Bangkok gives you enough time to experience the temples, food, neighborhoods and energy of Thailand’s capital without trying to see everything at once.
This itinerary mixes Bangkok’s famous sights with markets, river journeys and plenty of time for good food along the way.

Day 1: Temples & the Chao Phraya River
Start in Bangkok’s historic heart at the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, then walk to nearby Wat Pho to see the famous Reclining Buddha.
From there, cross the Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun. Spend the late afternoon exploring the riverside before finishing your first day with dinner overlooking the river or heading into the city.
Day 1:
Grand Palace → Wat Pho → Wat Arun → Riverside evening
Day 2: Markets, Shopping & Bangkok After Dark
Start the morning exploring one of Bangkok’s markets. If it’s the weekend, Chatuchak Weekend Market is an easy choice. On other days, spend the morning discovering a local market or exploring the shopping districts around Siam.
Later, head to Chinatown as Yaowarat begins to light up. Walk the streets, try a few different dishes and let dinner become part of the sightseeing.
Day 2: Market → Siam → Chinatown → Street food
Day 3: Canals, Neighborhoods & Skyline Views
See another side of Bangkok from the water with a canal or Chao Phraya River trip, where traditional homes and temples sit alongside the modern city.
Keep the afternoon flexible for a neighborhood you haven’t explored, a little shopping or simply slowing down. Finish your final evening with a rooftop or skyline view as Bangkok lights up below.
Day 3:
River & canals → Explore → Sunset → Bangkok at night
Have an Extra Day?
If you have a fourth day, take a trip to Ayutthaya, the former capital of Siam and one of Thailand’s most important historic destinations.
Ancient temples and ruins make it a completely different experience from modern Bangkok, while still being close enough for a day trip.
Where Should You Stay?
For a short Bangkok trip, staying somewhere with easy access to public transport makes everything simpler.
Sukhumvit
is convenient for first-time visitors,
Siam works well for shopping and central access, while the
Riverside offers a quieter base with beautiful views.
