14-Day Thailand Itinerary | The Perfect First Trip
Two weeks, three very different sides of Thailand. Experience Bangkok’s energy, northern culture in Chiang Mai and finish among the beaches and islands of the south.
Fourteen days is enough time to experience several sides of Thailand without turning your holiday into a race between airports.
For a first trip, this route combines
Bangkok, Chiang Mai and southern Thailand, balancing temples, food, mountains, beaches and island adventures along the way.

Thailand in 14 Days
The route is simple:
Bangkok → Chiang Mai → Southern Thailand
Spend three days discovering the capital, four days exploring Chiang Mai and the mountains of northern Thailand, then slow things down with a full week in the south.
For the beach section, choose Phuket and Krabi for an easy first trip, or swap in Koh Samui depending on the season and the experience you want.

Days 1–3: Bangkok
Day 1: Arrive & Explore Bangkok
The months from around November to February generally bring comfortable conditions for sightseeing and beach days, with lower humidity than during the hottest part of the year.
March onward becomes warmer, while rainfall increases during the wetter months.
Pattaya can still be visited throughout much of the year, but weather and sea conditions are worth checking if island trips are a priority.
Day 2: Temples & the Chao Phraya River
Start with Bangkok’s historic heart.
Visit the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, continue to Wat Pho, then cross the river to see Wat Arun.
Using the river boats between attractions is part of the experience and gives you a completely different perspective of Bangkok.
Spend the evening exploring
Chinatown and arrive hungry.
Best Things to Do in Pattaya
Just offshore from Pattaya, Koh Larn offers clear water and beaches that feel noticeably different from the mainland city.
Regular boats connect the island with Pattaya, making it an easy day trip for swimming, beach time and a slower change of scenery.
Stay into the afternoon rather than trying to race through every beach on the island.
Day 3: Markets, Neighborhoods & Modern Bangkok
Use your final Bangkok day to see another side of the capital.
Explore a market, wander through Siam or discover one of Bangkok’s smaller neighborhoods before enjoying your final evening in the city.
If Day 3 falls on a weekend,
Chatuchak Weekend Market
is an easy addition.

Days 4–7: Chiang Mai
Fly north to Chiang Mai and trade skyscrapers for temples, mountains and a considerably slower rhythm.
Day 4: Chiang Mai Old City
Spend your first afternoon exploring the Old City.
Visit Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang, wander through the historic streets and finish with northern Thai food and an evening market.
This is also the correct moment for your first bowl of
khao soi.

Day 5: Doi Inthanon
Dedicate a full day to Doi Inthanon National Park, home to Thailand’s highest mountain.
Explore waterfalls, mountain scenery, viewpoints and nature trails before returning to Chiang Mai in the evening.
Day 6: Doi Suthep & Nimman
Head into the mountains again to visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, overlooking Chiang Mai.
After returning to the city, spend the afternoon exploring
Nimman, where cafés, restaurants and boutiques show a more contemporary side of Chiang Mai.
Day 7: Choose Your Own Chiang Mai Adventure
Keep your final northern day flexible.
Join a Thai cooking class, visit Bua Tong Sticky Waterfalls, explore more of the countryside or choose a responsible elephant sanctuary focused on animal welfare.
Finish with one last night market before heading south.
Days 8–10: Phuket
Fly south and prepare for a dramatic change of scenery.
Phuket combines beaches, island adventures, restaurants and nightlife, making it an easy introduction to southern Thailand.
Day 8: Beach & Phuket Old Town
Keep your arrival day easy.
Spend some time at the beach before exploring colorful
Phuket Old Town, where Sino-Portuguese architecture, cafés and restaurants fill the historic streets.
Day 9: Explore Phuket
Choose a beach area and spend the day exploring the island.
Head south for viewpoints and beaches around Kata and Karon, visit cultural attractions or simply give yourself permission to spend several hours doing absolutely nothing beside the sea.
You are on holiday, after all.

Day 10: Island Adventure
Use your final full Phuket day for the sea.
Depending on conditions and the experience you want, choose an island or boat excursion and spend the day swimming, snorkeling and exploring the Andaman coastline.
Days 11–14: Krabi
Travel from Phuket to Krabi for the final chapter.
Limestone cliffs, longtail boats and quieter beaches create a completely different atmosphere from Phuket.
Day 11: Arrive & Explore Railay
After arriving in Krabi, head toward Railay Beach.
Surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, Railay is one of southern Thailand’s most recognizable landscapes.
Stay for sunset before returning for a relaxed evening.
Day 12: Hong Islands
Spend the day exploring the Hong Islands.
Expect turquoise water, limestone formations, beaches and plenty of opportunities for swimming and snorkeling.
This is exactly the kind of day people imagine when someone says “Thailand.”
Day 13: Nature or Adventure
For your final full adventure day, choose between two very different sides of Krabi.
Head inland toward the
Emerald Pool and hot springs, visit
Tiger Cave Temple, try rock climbing around Railay or simply spend another day by the sea.

Day 14: One Last Beach Morning
Do not sabotage the final morning by trying to squeeze in six attractions.
Have breakfast, take one last walk along the beach and enjoy a few quiet hours before beginning the journey home or continuing elsewhere in Thailand.
Fourteen days goes surprisingly quickly.
Prefer Koh Samui?
You don’t have to follow this itinerary exactly.
Depending on the season and your travel style, you can replace the Phuket and Krabi section with Koh Samui and the Gulf islands.
Koh Samui works particularly well for travelers looking for resorts, beaches and easy access to islands such as
Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
Before You Go
Thailand is easy to travel around, but distances between regions are larger than they sometimes appear on a map.
Book important domestic flights and accommodation ahead during busy periods, leave some flexibility for weather-dependent boat trips and avoid trying to add another destination every second day.
The goal isn't to collect Thailand like Pokémon.
It’s to actually experience it.
