Pattaya Travel Guide | Beaches, Islands & Things to Do
Beaches, islands, temples, nightlife and easy escapes from Bangkok. Pattaya is energetic, varied and much more than its famous party scene.
Located on Thailand’s eastern Gulf coast, Pattaya is one of the country’s easiest seaside destinations to reach from Bangkok. Beyond the busy city center, you’ll find quieter beaches, nearby islands, impressive temples, viewpoints and plenty of places to eat and explore.

Why Visit Pattaya?
Pattaya works well for travelers who want a beach destination without taking a flight from Bangkok.
The city offers a huge variety of experiences within a relatively small area. You can spend the morning on an island, explore a temple in the afternoon and choose between markets, restaurants or nightlife after sunset.
And if central Pattaya feels a little too energetic, quieter areas such as
Jomtien
and
Na Jomtien offer a very different atmosphere.
Best Time to Visit Pattaya
The months from around November to February generally bring comfortable conditions for sightseeing and beach days, with lower humidity than during the hottest part of the year.
March onward becomes warmer, while rainfall increases during the wetter months.
Pattaya can still be visited throughout much of the year, but weather and sea conditions are worth checking if island trips are a priority.
Things to Do in Pattaya
Start with the coastline, then look beyond it.
Visit the spectacular wooden Sanctuary of Truth, explore Wat Phra Yai and Big Buddha Hill, enjoy the view from Pattaya Viewpoint, or escape the city entirely with a boat trip to Koh Larn.
Gardens, water parks, markets and cultural attractions provide plenty of alternatives when you want a day away from the beach.
Best Things to Do in Pattaya
Just offshore from Pattaya, Koh Larn offers clear water and beaches that feel noticeably different from the mainland city.
Regular boats connect the island with Pattaya, making it an easy day trip for swimming, beach time and a slower change of scenery.
Stay into the afternoon rather than trying to race through every beach on the island.
Discover Jomtien
South of central Pattaya, Jomtien offers a more relaxed coastal atmosphere.
Its long beachfront is lined with restaurants and accommodation, making the area particularly appealing to families, couples and travelers who want access to Pattaya without staying directly in its busiest neighborhoods.

Where to Stay in Pattaya
Choose Central Pattaya if shopping, restaurants and nightlife are priorities.
Jomtien works better for a more relaxed beach stay, while Na Jomtien offers resorts and a quieter atmosphere farther from the center.
For something between the two, areas around
Pratumnak Hill provide relatively easy access to both Pattaya and Jomtien.
What to Eat in Pattaya
Pattaya’s international character means you can find almost everything, from Thai street food and seafood to restaurants serving cuisines from around the world.
For something local to the region, look for fresh seafood and eastern Thai flavors, or spend an evening exploring markets and trying several smaller dishes.
Pattaya After Dark
Nightlife remains a major part of Pattaya’s identity, particularly around Walking Street and Central Pattaya, where bars, clubs and entertainment venues stay busy late into the night.
But that isn’t the only way to spend an evening. Night markets, beachfront restaurants, rooftop venues and quieter areas around Jomtien provide plenty of alternatives.
Getting to Pattaya
Pattaya is around 150 kilometres southeast of Bangkok, making road travel the most common option.
Buses, private transfers and taxis connect Bangkok with Pattaya, while Suvarnabhumi Airport also has direct transport options.
Journey times vary with traffic, so leave some breathing room in the schedule.
How Long Should You Stay?
Around two to three days is enough to experience Pattaya’s main attractions and spend a day exploring Koh Larn.
Stay longer if you want more beach time, nightlife or a slower resort-style holiday around Jomtien or Na Jomtien.
Pattaya or Hua Hin?
Both are easy coastal escapes from Bangkok, but the atmosphere is very different.
Pattaya offers more nightlife, entertainment and activities, while Hua Hin generally suits travelers looking for a quieter seaside atmosphere, markets and nature trips.
The better fit depends on what you want from the coast.
